Tools & Materials Needed
Tools
• Sewing Machine with fresh needle appropriate for your fabric choices
• Sharp fabric scissors
• Small sharp scissors for cutting faux fur backing, and clipping tiny seams
• Hemostats or other tool for turning and stuffing
• Long doll needle and strong thread for hand stitching nose
• Pins or clips to hold fabrics together while stitching
• Fabric marking pen or chalk
• Tape measure or ruler
• Rubber bands or elastic bands (for holding items while glue dries)
Materials
• Fabrics:
• Body fabric: any fabric 10” x 8” piece, or you can use a sock
• Hat fabric: any fabric 12” wide and at least 10” long
• Skin fabric: 3” square for nose, 10×7” for optional feet -This MUST be stretchy fabric. Spandex knit from a nude colored camisole works great. T-shirt or other stretch knits also work well.
• Beard: faux fur triangle 6” wide, and 3-6” long depending on fur length
• Thread to coordinate with your chosen fabrics
• Heavy filler for bottom: plastic pellets, aquarium gravel, etc.
• Fiber fill stuffing
• Fabric Glue: Fabri-tac™ works well. Also, Surebonder® fine tip hot glue gun with their fabric glue sticks work very well for Gnomes.
• (Optional) Tear-Away stabilizer makes it easier to trace and stitch the feet.
• (Optional) twine, String or rubber bands to tie off top of gnome body (or you can hand stitch)
• (Optional) Hat trim: 12” faux fur yarn or other furry or fluffy trim
• (Optional) Embellishments of your choice (see Embellish Your Gnome section for ideas)
