Description
ITH Design Details
- ITH stands for “In the Hoop” and refers to embroidery machine files that stitch a 3D project like this one.
- I also have a PDF sewing pattern in this shop to make a similar puppet if you don’t have an embroidery machine.
- .ZIP file Includes these machine embroidery file formats: DST, EXP, HUS, JEF, PES, SEW, VIP, VP3, XXX
- Number of Hoopings: 4
- Finished Size: about 9″ tall with floppy hat (fits most hands)
To stitch all 4 parts in the hoop – you’ll need a 7″ x 11″ (180mm x 280mm) minimum hoop size
OR you can Stitch the feet and mouth with 5×7″ hoop, and you can use the included sewing pattern pieces to stitch the head/body, and hat pieces on your Sewing Machine.
*Finished size may vary depending on how you assemble your project
** Please refer to the image with design thumbnails for exact design measurements to verify your hoops are large enough.
Tools and Materials Needed
Tools
• Embroidery machine with 7” x 11” (180mm x 280mm) embroidery field (hoop) or larger (you can also stitch the mouth and feet in 5×7 hoop, then finish the body and hat seams on your sewing machine)
• A fresh needle in your embroidery machine (TIP: a size 14 needle may stitch better through multiple layers of fleece fabric)
• Sharp fabric scissors, applique scissors, small detail scissors for feet
• Hemostats or other tool for turning and stuffing the toes of the feet
• Long doll needle and strong thread for hand-stitching during assembly (at least for the nose)
• (Optional) Fabric Glue: Fabri-tac™ works well. Also, Surebonder® fine tip hot glue gun with their fabric glue sticks works great. OR you can hand stitch everything and not use any glue.
• Pins or clips to hold pieces during assembly
Materials
• Fleece or Luxe Fleece (minky) with some stretch: 1/3 yard for head/body, and hat
• Mouth Fleece: 2 pieces of black, pink, or red fleece for mouth, each 5” x 7” (13 cm x 18cm)
• Skin-tone Stretch knit: less than ¼ yard for feet and nose
• Two pieces 5” x 7” (13 cm x 18cm) for feet
• One piece 3” x 3” (8cm x 8cm) for nose
• (Optional) A scrap of fabric for the tongue applique
• Faux Fur: 7” wide by 5” long (18cm x 13cm) for the beard
• Stabilizer
• Lightweight tear-away stabilizer for 4 hoopings (two 7×11” and two 5×7” hoopings)
• Rigid mouth-plate: 7” x 4” piece of rigid material such as cardboard, mat-board, foam-core, 1/8” rubber gasket (←my favorite!), piece of plastic storage tub, plastic placemat, or similar material to make the mouth firm and easy to move.
• A few inches of duct tape, bookbinder tape or similar for the rigid mouth-plate
• Embroidery thread to coordinate with your fabric, and bobbin thread
• Fiber Fill Stuffing for feet
