ITH stands for "In the Hoop" and refers to embroidery machine files that stitch a 3D project like this one.
.ZIP file Includes these machine embroidery file formats: DST, EXP, HUS, JEF, PES, SEW, VIP, VP3, XXX
Number of Hoopings: ONE for tiny size, OR Three for small size. (see sizes below)
Download includes 2 sizes:
- 4×4 hoops can make the tiny heart with stitched face, and use chenille stems for arms and legs
- 5×7 hoops can make the small heart with applique face, fabric limbs, and gloves. Instructions are included for wiring the limbs if you want to.

Tools and Materials Needed
Tools
- Embroidery machine with 4×4 or 5×7 hoop (TIP – a size 14 needle may stitch better through multiple layers of fabric)
- Sharp fabric scissors
- (optional) applique scissors
- Hemostats, EZ Turner, or pencil/chopstick for turning limbs and mittens right-side-out (none needed for 4×4 size)
- Fabric Glue or Hot Glue
- (optional) Pliers and wire cutters (for wire armatures)
Materials
- Embroidery thread to match your fabric, plus black and white for faces
- Fiberfill Stuffing
- Embroidery Stabilizer of your choice
- A scrap of water or heat soluble stabilizer to use under the face detail stitches
- (Optional) Armature Wire or similar, and electrical tape for poseable limbs on 5×7, or chenille stems for 4×4 size limbs
- Fabrics – The following fabrics are recommended for this project:
- Heart head/body – short pile faux fur, fleece, felt, (heavier weight fabrics) 2 pieces to fit your hoop size
- Eye applique on 5×7 version – scuba knit, fleece, felt, woven cotton, stretch knits
- Limbs on 5×7 version – lightweight stretch knits, cotton quilt fabric is OK but a bit more challenging to turn, you need to pieces to fit your 5x7 hoop
- Mittens on 5×7 version – scuba knit, fleece, felt, old sweaters
